Many expressed disappointment yesterday when Google announced a new messaging client supporting instant messaging and video calling but not SMS. That feature will arrive in a future update according to Google+ Community Manager Dori Storbeck. When asked if Hangouts would support SMS integration, Storbeck confirmed that it will introduce "the most requested feature" later. There's no timetable for the unveiling, but Hangouts will eventually become the unified messaging client that Android and iOS users hoped to see completed in time for Google I/O.
